College football is so much fun. Much of it coming off, however, not on the field.
If for instance there is anyone left who believes mighty three loss and now four loss Alabama belonged in the playoffs after the drubbing Indiana put on them New Years Day in the Rose Bowl, they probably will deny that the fix to get Alabama there was in all along. See the drubbing they wrote off in their Conference championship game from Georgia.
Indiana beat the Crimson Tide’s butts Crimson red. It was a major methodical beatdown. Now for all you Nick Saban and other caterwauling football junkies about James Madison making it to the playoffs, there are 13 former JM players currently on Indiana’s roster and many made big contributions to the demolishing of Paul Finebaum’s favorite team to shill for, Alabama.
The SEC is now in bowl games 3-7 against non-SEC opponents. Yes, we get it. It’s so tough to play all those games against other stout SEC conferences teams every year while the rest of football has it so easy.
You’re dealing with engrained regional biases and you will never overcome them with committees composed of biased regional ADs. But that’s the shorter end of the stick. The longer is big, big, huge corporate money and humongous betting once known as gambling is the other.
Much of the Alabama hype came from the Oklahoma game, another pedestrian outfit that many believed didn’t belong in the playoffs either. But they’re a member of the clan with a large following.
So far the playoffs have been a Canterbury’s Tales of exposure as one team after another was exposed. Mighty Ohio State, Big Money Oil Texas Tech, Kirby ‘Too” Smart’s Bulldogs and the Crimson “We surrender!” Tide among them.
And then there’s Notre Dame. It’s being bandied about that Alabama’s cruising Rose Bowl debacle is the greatest in its Bowl history.
But wait. There’s more to come as four teams two from the Big10, one from the ACC and only one lonely one from the SEC, something that was never supposed to happen, are left. See Texas and Steve Sarkisian.
If you think the SEC wants one of those Big 10 schools to win for the third straight year in a row the big prize you’re dreaming. You can take those biased committees to whatever and how many fancy hotels, meeting rooms and neutral sites you want, but you’ll never take their biases out of them.
The sick SEC strategy annually is flood the playoffs with SEC teams increasing the likelihood of one stealing the title. That’s there major goal and they hardly care which one it is either.
Meanwhile, being a fly on the wall listening to Alabama’s head coach and his agent after this crushing defeat might be fortuitous and entertaining.
As a second meanwhile, keep buying those nose-bleed priced stadium tickets, all the rip off paraphernalia from jerseys to Cuck Coo clocks and the greedy streaming broadcasting jokes that everyone from NFL Roger “$50 million” Goodell and corporate sports America want to keep you poor and you’ll stay poor.
It’s day two, of a new year!
